Syllabus checklist
During the first week of classes
- Upload syllabus to the University’s course management system
- Send syllabus to Department Secretary
Syllabus must include
- Full course name
- Course code and section number
- Semester and year
- Faculty name
- Faculty office hours and location
- Faculty phone and email
- Course description that reflects the official description in the catalog
- Course goals/objectives
- Reading requirements (if any)
- Grading procedure
- Grading scale (if different from University standard)
- Methods of evaluation
- Religious accommodation statement
- University ADA statement
- Student work retention policy
These requirements are per the 2024–2027 faculty contract:
Article 12, Section 10.B.
Each Bargaining Unit Member shall be required to develop a course syllabus for each course taught during each term that reflects the course description contained in the University catalog. The course syllabus shall be distributed to students by the faculty member during the first week of classes via the University’s course management system. In addition, the course syllabus shall be sent to the Department Secretary for accreditation purposes. The course syllabus must include, but is not limited to, the course description when required by accreditation, the course goals/objectives, faculty office hours and contact information (office location, office phone, email), grading procedure and grading scale for letter grades if different from the University standard grading scale, reading requirements, methods of evaluation, the religious accommodation statement, and the University’s ADA statement. Faculty members are required to post current term course syllabi on the University’s course management system. The University shall consolidate all required syllabus statements into one webpage and provide a link to this webpage, which may be used on syllabi in place of these full statements. The University is responsible for ensuring all statements are current.
